at Axoft

Cambridge, Massachusetts

Axoft is building the most advanced and scalable platform for implantable brain-machine interface. Our mission is to enable minimally invasive, long-term stable and ultra-high bandwidth communication with the brain, opening new therapies and treatments against neurological disorders and physical imparities. We have bridged the gap between electronic and biological materials to create the softest, nanofabricated brain implants in the world. We are now looking to add talented people to the team who are passionate, like to deliver results and find creative solutions to complex problems. Axoft is looking for candidates who have demonstrated exceptional abilities and results in their previous professional, academic and interpersonal experiences and have the skillset that fits this job offer.

As a microfabrication engineer at Axoft, you will be working in nanofabrication facilities to manufacture the smallest and softest microelectrodes in the world. You will be responsible for processing wafers at various steps, such as lithography, thin film deposition, dry etch and wet etch, metrology, packaging and final quality control. Experience with medical devices and soft material manufacturing are strongly preferred.

About you:

· You find large challenges exciting and enjoy discovering and defining problems as much as solving them.

· You deliver. You may enjoy thoughtful conversations about problems and perfecting designs, but in the end, you know that what matters is delivering a manufacturable solution that works every time.

· You are a cross-disciplinary team member. You are excited to work with and learn from software, mechanical, electrical, materials, biological engineers, and neuroscientists. You are comfortable communicating across teams.

· Resourceful, flexible and adaptable; no task is too big or too small.

Key qualifications:

· Desire to work reliably with small and delicate processes where precision is critical.

· B.S/ M.S in Material Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related fields.

· 3+ years of working experience in cleanroom environments.

· Attention to details, able to follow fabrication protocols and deliver reliable results in a timely manner, keep detailed notations for fabrication procedures.

· Great work ethics. Follow all standard operation protocols and safety regulations.

· Solid understanding of semiconductor manufacturing techniques.

· Excellent communication skills.

Preferred qualifications:

· Ph.D. in Material Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related fields.

· Fabrication experience of thin film biomedical devices, preferably brain implants or neural probes.

· Experience with soft materials fabrication, handling and patterning.

· Familiarity with advanced semiconductor and electronics packaging techniques (e.g wire-bonding, flip-chip bonding)

· Working experience in a medical device manufacturing facility, experience with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

Your responsibilities:

· Collaborate and report to Senior Research Scientist about the general progress and strategy for devices design and fabrication.

· Follow a standard protocol and produce brain machine interface devices to support the development efforts of related team members.

· Production of engineering documentation, processes, and workflows.

· Maintain good organizational relationships with other departments and engineering disciplines.

· Be a future team leader.
