Position Summary
Reporting to the Head of Applications Development and working closely with the Head of Engineering and Operations, the Program Manager will be responsible for keeping Applications Development projects on-time and on-budget, and ensure alignment with engineering and software development throughout the product realization process. Volta is building a suite of genomics and synthetic biology applications for its disruptive digital fluidics sample prep automation platform. We are seeking an energetic and experienced program manager with a proven track record of motivating cross-functional teams from product conceptualization to launch, and the ability to right-size big company processes in a startup environment.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Apply sound technical and business principles to create project schedules and timelines for applications development projects that identify milestones and resources. Use program and project management skills to track project timelines, risks and costs.
- Identify project and timeline risks and develop risk mitigation strategies.
- Manage the activities of cross functional applications development teams in the design, development, verification and validation of genomics applications.
- Manage unexpected program delays and direct cross-functional team efforts to re-align with established project timelines.
- Act as program leader and manage cross functional program resources. Coordinate and run team meetings. Prepare and give oral presentations in a group setting including generation of project status presentations and reports. Directly interact with supporting functional groups to meet project objectives and keep programs on track.
- Participate in negotiation of business transactions with external parties and contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related tasks as necessary.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Exposure to applications development in genomics and life science space or equivalent.
- Experience leading the development and implementation of projects, with ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and effectively manage timelines.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, as well as interact and communicate with all levels of the organization in a team environment.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills.
- Strong skills with Google Workspace, Slack and other collaboration tools.
- Expert building and managing project schedules and resources with Microsoft Project, Smartsheet or equivalent
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in a technical field
- 5-8 years of relevant experience developing scientific applications with a minimum of three years’ experience in project or program management.
- PMP certification is desirable
